Energy Efficiency, Data Intelligence, and ESG Criteria in Agrifood: The Strategic and Digital Transition for SMEs and Large Food Enterprises

30.Oct.2026 | 11:00 - 12:30
Sala/Room 1 (Pad./Hall 7)

Event organized by Thor Energia, together with Ingegneria Italia, FIRE, ASSOEGE, Maps Energy and BPER Banca.

Thor Energia — alongside Ingegneria Italia, FIRE, ASSOEGE, Maps Energy, and BPER Banca — is driving the energy transition in the agrifood sector. Through applied engineering, energy audits, sustainable finance, management systems, and specialized software ecosystems (Brainwatt and MilkSuite), the network provides businesses with integrated solutions to manage data, optimize utilities, and meet ESG criteria.

Session Content

The agrifood sector faces the challenge of combining manufacturing excellence with energy cost reduction and alignment with ESG criteria. This conference offers agrifood decision-makers a comprehensive roadmap: from the impact of ESG parameters on access to credit and large-scale retail (GDO), to applied engineering for utility optimization (refrigeration, steam, CIP washing, and on-site generation). The event will dive into the critical value of production and energy data (IoT, Industry 4.0, and Transition 5.0) managed through specialized software such as Brainwatt and MilkSuite, as well as the implementation of Energy Management Systems and real-world regional case studies.

Session Program

Presentations Speakers
Moderation by Ingegneria Italia
MODULE 1: Opening Remarks – Macroeconomic Scenario and ESG Standards in the Food Sector

Sustainability as a Supply Chain Asset: How ESG criteria and sustainable finance impact access to credit for agrifood SMEs.

Energy efficiency as a strategic tool to qualify businesses within the large-scale retail supply chain and enhance Sustainability Reporting.

BPER Banca
MODULE 2: Energy Engineering Applied to Food Industry Utilities and Case Studies

Energy Auditing in the Food Sector: Mapping energy flows across production departments (raw material reception, cooking, pasteurization, packaging, cold storage) and identifying hidden energy waste across processing lines and plant services.

Utility Optimization and System Integration: A technical deep-dive into the facility’s highest energy-consuming areas: refrigeration plants, blast freezing tunnels, steam generators, purge loops, hot water systems for CIP (Clean-In-Place) washing, and on-site generation plants (cogeneration and photovoltaics).

Consumption Monitoring (IoT): Digital tools to measure specific energy consumption indexes per kilogram or liter of finished product.

Successful Case Studies: Presentation of real-world before-and-after performance metrics from local projects.

FIRE – Federazione Italiana per l'uso Razionale dell'Energia

MODULO 3: The Innovation Manager and Data Collection in the Food Sector

Current Industry Landscape: Analysis of standard data management practices in the food sector and how companies bridge the gap when data is missing.

Production Data as the Foundation of Digital and Energy Transition: How the rise of energy and digital transformation (Industry 4.0 & Transition 5.0) requires data to be seamlessly collected, stored, and analyzed.

Data as the Cornerstone of Management Systems: Harnessing data, KPIs, baselines, and periodic reporting to meet quality, environmental, safety, and energy challenges.

Software & Digital Ecosystem Focus: Practical applications using the specialized Brainwatt and MilkSuite platforms.
