Mito - The 3D Innovation for 360° Food Safety

The phenomenon of product recalls is a major challenge for food companies. And consumer preference for glass packaging is well-known and steadily growing. However, the persistent threat posed by glass fragments, elusive to visual detection and conventional X-ray inspection methods, persists.

To meet this challenge head-on, BIOMETiC has developed Mito, the only computerized tomograph for food inspection.

Using its innovative computed tomography technology, Mito captures real-time 360-degree X-ray images of products as they move through the production line. The hundreds of images acquired for each piece are merged into a single 3D reconstruction that is analyzed to verify aspects such as integrity, fill level, presence of vacuum, and composition of the products, as well as the presence of contaminants in any position of the same, such as glass-in-glass fragments.

Mito's detailed 3D reconstruction enables detailed analysis of both single products and multipacks. On the left, X-ray images of a contaminated jar as acquired by a four-view system. In these images, the contaminant is virtually invisible and undetectable.
